A core portion of our efforts are aimed at community development. Our team continues to create new ways to interact, and positively impact the future of those communities we're vested in.

The following programs will be available in 2017:

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TRAINING
(Park Jam Series Youth Program)

Leadership Development Training (LDT), a comprehensive collection of articles and activities for developing leadership skills and knowledge. Becoming a good leader is not easy, but learning the correct skills and knowledge, putting them into practice, and adapting them to different situations will put you well on your way. LDT will teach leadership qualities including communication, ability to motivate others, and management to help ensure professional readiness.

LDT is divided into 13 Sections that include reading material and module quiz. Also included in this training are activities that will allow you to practice some of the concepts real-time in order to develop your skills.

LDT Modules:

  • Concepts of Leadership: Definition, principles, factors, processes, and difference from management
  • Leading: Basic leadership skills, such as goal setting, supervision, and inspiring
  • Direction: Planning and problem solving
  • Leadership Models: Four Framework Approach and the Managerial Grid
  • Human Behavior Part I: Hierarchy of Needs, Hygiene and Motivation Factors, Theory X/Y
  • Human Behavior Part II: Expectancy Theory and ERG Theory
  • Motivation: allowing the needs of your team to coincide with the needs of your organization
  • Counseling and Performance Appraisals: Helping employees develop in order to achieve organizational goals
  • Social Leadership: Using social interactions and social media to create great teams
  • Leadership Styles & Bases of Power: The manner and approach of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people
  • Character and Traits of Good Leaders: Being a person of honorable character
  • Ethos and Leadership: ethics for leaders
  • After Action Review: Steps, guidelines, and strategies for capturing lessons learned

MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
(Park Jam Series Youth Program)

Music Technology will introduce students to the uses, concepts, techniques, and terminology of computing through music applications. The students will gain experience with current hardware and software for music sequencing, synthesis, and music performance practice. This course is also designed as an introduction to music fundamentals, notation, and theory through music technology such as MIDI and digital recording.

Music Technology Sections:

Section 1 INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC HISTORY

  • Course requirements and student expectations
  • Comprehension of music as a tool for communication and creative expression
  • Music's use and impact in society

Section 2 INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY IN MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

  • Identify and compare historical periods of music technology evolution
  • The impact of technology on music, composition, and the music industry
  • Contributors to the field of Music Technology
  • Cultural impact of music technology

Section 3 MUSIC THEORY, INSTRUMENTAL TECHNIQUES AND COMPOSITION

  • Analyze and describe musical intervals, scales, modes and chord progressions
  • Interpret and evaluate songs for rhythm, harmony, pitch, texture, and tempo
  • Basic techniques of musical expression

Section 4 CONFIGURING, RECORDING, SYNTHESIS, AND SOUND DESIGN TECHNIQUES

  • Understanding cabling, equipment and session setup
  • Understanding of recording, producing, mixing techniques using today Music Technology
  • Understand and apply technical skills in the use of plug-ins and MIDI
  • Understand and apply MIDI into a computer and create an innovative score
  • Understand and apply use of sequencing, sampling and sound processing

Section 5 CREATE A PROJECT

  • Apply concepts and technology learned to create and compose a Music Project.

LEGENDS IN THE MIX
(Park Jam Series Youth Program)

Legends in the Mix combines Music Technology and Leadership Development programs created for youth between the ages 10-18 who demonstrate musical, vocal, and/or technical potential in the arts. By providing a positive, creative, fun and highly relevant approach to commercial music technology and recording, they will have the opportunity to develop practical skills in which to express their creative talents, attain greater personal and scholastic achievement, and gain fundamental occupational skills for the music industry.

Legends in the Mix will introduce youth who demonstrate artistic potential to a positive professional environment where they can explore and develop a variety of music technology and professional skills. Classes are hands-on and include how to make electronic beats, loops, samples, and songs in this exciting new experience! Advances in personal and mobile computing have made music production easier, cheaper, and more portable than ever. With an eye toward the electronic, pop, hip-hop, indie rock, and experimental genres, this program will give young aspiring producers, beat makers, songwriters, and musicians the basic tools they need to make their first pieces of electronic music.

Legends in the Mix is committed to teaching life-enriching skills such as goal setting, project planning, group interaction, and disciplined behavior that will help prepare our youth for a future in the music industry or related careers. Musical ability is only part of the over-all solution, so we have incorporated a Leadership Development Training (LDT) to further ensure success. Our instructors and mentors are made up of highly regarded minority leaders within the community who have experience working with youth in an educational setting and have powerful professional stories that connect with our youth of today.
